With this blog, my aim is to post a slather of ideas, lines, colour and inevitably a little bit of babble. I would like it to be a place where Architecture meets Art, falls in love and procreates. This is my passion, brilliant, unguarded and unafraid.

If you'd also like to hear from me every now and again, you are welcome to subscribe to my mailing list.

Urban Art Binge gorged on this most beautiful private garden on Saturday morning. Designed and built by Stuart Bull from SOD design, Brisbane. We sampled textures and played with lines in a fresh and exciting way. Perfect weather for it!

Scar 090512

Life Drawing at Jugglers Art Space 90512I love drawing the body. I draw it as if I am touching the curves, the shadows cast, the structure of bones and flesh. I love to draw traces of life, those permanent scars and marks that we take on board with new adventures. Whether those marks are left from events of joy or events of pain, they are written on the body. Whether they are made by us or by something/someone other. They are ours to own. To carry.

I love my body. I love your body. I love the lines between.

More body sketches here.

White Silence II

Jugglers Art Space in Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley have been trialing an artists event space called White Silence. I participated in White Silence II last Friday and was blown away by such a powerful concept. The premise being that in between the bustle and noise of our time, we are often forgetting to just stop, listen and be. Just create. Peter Breen, director of Jugglers has created a space whereby artists come to the Gallery all dressed in white and ready to collaboratively create art, without talking for 75 minutes. We were encouraged to collaborate on the works and react to eachother both physically and through notes.

This sketch above, using rose conte pencil and ink felt pen illustrates the connection created through art of a group of strangers, artists and friends.

A wicked idea, can't wait for number 3. If you're in brisbane and keen to join in, either actively or passively, visit the Jugglers website for contact details and how to register your interest.

Dancing on The Block 2012

Limited edition prints available. Place your order now.

This week past, my piece titled Dancer in the Dark was featured in Dan & Dani's main bedroom challenge on The Block! I received a call from Danielle in a state of panic wondering how fast I could paint a painting that would suit their room. I went out straight away to buy a canvas and it took me one day of SPEED PAINTING to finish. The couple then flew me to melbourne to deliver it the next day. What an adventure, thanks for the opportunity guys!

This painting is roughly one metre squared in charcoal and acrylic on linen. If you are interested in having a unique piece commissioned please don't hesitate to contact me.

Studio work in progress

Mixed media on canvas.. polychromos crayon, charcoal, acrylic + oil,

This piece I started last week is work in progress but I'm happy with where it's going. I arrived at my studio after having just finished 6 weeks of UAB workshops and had so much energy and colour to release onto the canvas. I began with no particular image in mind so just started to collect things around the place create a composition. The figure in the piece is a manequin named Gloria that I borrowed from Kristy Morgan's studio adjacent to mine. The piece she's wearing around her neck is a creation of Ruby and Prankstar.. captured with a little of my creative licence! On the left is a machine/creature I sketched over a year ago at the industrial park of Duisburg-nord in Germany. To the right is an oragami parrot made by by friend Lauren. It's a dynamic piece and I can't wait to get back to it!!

Drawing at Southbank with UAB

Drawing with Urban Art Binge at Southbank this Wednesay night, I found a discarded lighter in the garden and was inspired by Marissa and Lisa to do some painting with my red wine. This was the result and I'm pretty happy. I like the depth of the burnt skyline, layered over text. I used a wet brush to blend the text from bottom to top to dramatise the shadow of the top layer. A pop up drawing of sorts. I like how that City Cat, burnt into the page, is a way of illustrating how these water taxi's make their mark on the river's surface like a rippled carpet. The wine helps with the fluidity of this image.
