Inspired by Matisse - Landscape. Body. Object

It's about time I started mining my travel sketches. After visiting the Matisse exhibition yesterday I was inspired by the way he privliged the line as a way of simplifying and distilling the essence of the subject. My previous knowledge of his work was limited to his paintings and his marvelous use of colour. It was awesome to learn that his passion for drawing was at the forefront of his artistic practice. At the conclusion of the exhibition, GOMA has set up a Matisse Drawing Room filled with sculptures, fruit, teapots, ipads on easels and good old fashion pencils and paper. It was a brilliant ending, and a clever way to seduce the public to sit and buy a slice of citrus tart... lightly topped with toffee, it comes highly recommended by me. Well done Brisbane.

Beautiful bodies, magical lands. Objects and shadows, light from my hands. Textures and treasures, a story to tell. Throwing a penny in my wishing well.
