With this blog, my aim is to post a slather of ideas, lines, colour and inevitably a little bit of babble. I would like it to be a place where Architecture meets Art, falls in love and procreates. This is my passion, brilliant, unguarded and unafraid.

If you'd also like to hear from me every now and again, you are welcome to subscribe to my mailing list.

Sidney Nolan @ QAG

Sitting infront of Sidney Nolan's Mrs Fraser and the Convict at the Queensland Art Gallery, I'm trying to determine what it is exactly about this painting that appeals to me.

Southbank Brisbane 180112

Today I was determined to work at the State Library of Queensland's Asia Pacific Design Library, though it's taken me a couple of hours to walk here after stopping to sketch along Southbank.

170112

After being determined to re-use this canvas, the layer of primer actually gave it a lovely ghostly texture/ mood. Yesterday I was playing with the possibility of garding the image for another purpose. I'm putting it aside for the moment, it'll come to me.

Grandma + I - One Year Apart

Reflecting on my work I thought it would be an interesting exercise to put these two portraits side by side. Both painted roughly a year apart, I don't quite know what to write about them yet. It's not a comparison.\

R.I.P - Re-primed and called 'a study.'

The reality of summer in the studio is that not all paintings will survive. With this canvas I learnt that ink travels beautifully and obediently on canvas. Quite similar to watercolour, I feel like I know this technique very well. Even though every image I make is a study, I won't pretend that I'm not a little sad.

Skin

This textured treasure was found in a garden in St Lucia, Brisbane. It's so cool what can be found with your hands in the ground. I'm finding that gardening is such a rich way to process creative thoughts. I love the earth. I love to smell it on my hands and in my hair. I even love finding the ring of black on the inside of my nostrils at the end of the day! (is that weird?) Some creature has shed this skin. Now it's a part of my process.

Progress 100112

Progress.. meaning that there are some beautiful moments happening. The whole remains as a proportional nightmare, but it's getting closer. I read in a small book today, a lovely tip on self portraiture.. It will succeed or fail based on it's interest as an image. Try to judge it as an image, not as a mirror - source forgotten. My bad.

Proportion Correction

I'm trying my hand at portraiture. At the moment I'm using myself as subject, though for some reason I am finding it difficult to get my proportions correct. With the aid of the Adobe Creative Suite I'm trying to see exactly what's happening.
